Xiaoliuqiu (小琉球)

Xiaoliuqiu (also called Lambai Island) is a small island south of Kaohsiung famous for its water activities and many small beaches. Due to its geographic location, it’s also a prime spot for sunset viewing, especially a classic ocean sunset.

Wherever you’re coming from, getting to Xiaoliuqiu is a bit of a long journey. Even from Kaohsiung it takes a long time to get to the ferry station to go to Xiaoliuqiu. But the ferry is short, and once you get on the island getting around is a breeze (most people use scooters, and the island is small so you can get to most places within just minutes).

Wherever you are on the island, you’ll probably be able to at least partially see the sunset, but two perfect places are the Sunset Pavilion and the Shanfu Ecological Walk platform. You can go from one platform/roadside pull-off to another in minutes and catch most or all of the good sunset angles on the island in just one evening.
