Taiwan Gonglu Yuandian (台灣公路原點)

A Taipei urban photographer’s favorite, and one that you might often see on Instagram – this is a popular bridge next to Taipei Main Station with no English name.

What makes this special is that it gives a great view of the buildings and red gate of Beimen on Zhongxiao West Road. And because Zhongxiao West Road is facing west, in the horizon behind the city landscape you’ll see the sunset. If you time this one right with an app like The Photographer’s Ephemeris, you can see the sun set exactly in the middle of Zhongxiao Road.

And if you look in the other direction, you will get a nice shot of Taipei 101.

This place is super easy to get to via MRT (it’s right next to Exit M7 of Taipei Main Station).

Because the sunset naturally happens around the time when there’s a lot of traffic, you’ll see a lot of cars in your picture, which mixed with the colorful signs of the restaurants and convenience stores, will give you an ultimate urban sunset vibe.

This place will definitely make you appreciate Taipei’s city bridges. Simple but sometimes very effective in giving you a better and safer perspective of the city scenery than standing in the road.
