Located up in Tamsui within walking distance of Fisherman’s Wharf, Shalun Beach provides a wonderful angle of the sunset over the ocean.
Shalun Beach is an interesting spot in that it’s on the itinerary of many wedding picture companies at sunset time, and it’s a few minutes from the Luye Equestrian Center, where people can ride horses on the beach. So you’ll be sharing that sunset vista with professional photographers and their subjects in wedding clothes, general non-wedding picture couples, and horses and their trainers taking pictures of the riders.
If you look at the reviews of this place, you’ll see that although it’s a beach, swimming is not allowed, and there is often a fair amount of trash. There are other better beaches that are cleaner and allow swimming, but if you’re just coming here to see an ocean sunset, this place is a can’t miss.
Since the Danhai Light Rail was built, this place is even more accessible by public transportation than before. Take the MRT to Hongshulin, then get on the Light Rail towards Fisherman’s Wharf. Get off at LRT Shalun Station and walk just two minutes to the beach.
Or, from MRT Tamsui Station, there are multiple buses that go to Fisherman’s Wharf and Shalun (the 857 stops at LRT Shalun Station).
