Kangle Shan (康樂山)

Neihu is pretty, but as I’ve mentioned in other Neihu writeups, it’s not easy to find good sunsets here unless you get up high a bit. Well, Kangle Shan, situated next to Dahu Park, gives you a chance to do just that.

Here, you can get a gorgeous view of the sunset above the lake and Neihu after a 20ish minute hike. If it’s a nice day, you’ll see the orange reflections of the sky in the lake.

The perspective is nice – a mix of green from Dahu Park and the mountains in the distance, and urban from the apartments next to the park and buildings in the distance, as well as the wavy line of the MRT finishing out the scene. The famous bridge at Dahu Park is beautiful from up here.

The trail is a bit primitive and can get slippery so be careful. Also, there are an absurd amount of mosquitoes (especially at the viewing point) – bring repellent!

Getting to Kangle Shan from the city is doable by public transit; the trailhead (which is easy to miss) is about a 10-minute walk from Dahu Park MRT. See the link below for the exact entrance – look for the little blue building and walk through the small alleyway to the stairs behind.
