Guting Riverside Park Cycling Observatory (古亭河濱公園自行車道觀景台)

I have an affinity with this place since I lived near it in my first couple years in Taiwan. While Da’an Park is the go-to park in the center of Taipei, don’t underestimate Guting Riverside Park, which gives a better view of Taipei’s scenery. A bridge separates Guting Riverside Park from Taipei City Hakka Cultural Park.

One of the best views in Taipei can be found atop the aforementioned bridge overlooking the park (on Google it’s called the Guting Riverside Cycling Observatory). It’s just high enough to give a pretty good view of the horizon, and since it’s above a park, you can see really far from the top since there are no obstructions.

The curvature of the walking/biking path and the lights atop the bridge platform give great perspective to the park in the foreground and buildings on the horizon. There are many places for water to accumulate such as on the path, bridge platform, basketball courts below, so on a day when it’s stopped raining and the sun comes out just in time for sunset (which seems to happen a fair bit in Taipei), the reflections from the water can help you get some truly dramatic pictures.

This is convenient to get to from Taipower Building Station, YouBike/bike, scootering, or driving. If you go down into the Riverside Park, you can also wander around and see the sunset.
