Daluntou Mountain (大崙頭山)

Daluntou is a great option for its into-the-sky viewing platform, which is just a small staircase that puts you in a prime spot for viewing the sunset ahead above Tamsui, and the fog-covered mountains of Yangmingshan to the north. If you look in the other direction, you’ll see Neihu.

In addition to the staircase viewing platform (which is only really suitable for one person or a couple), there is plenty of room to stand on the main platform below it, or you can get a great view of the sunset just from ground level. Actually, if you don’t want anything in your foreground, the ground level is better (as you’ll see in the pictures below).

The hike up to Daluntou Mountain is not too hard. It’s just a bunch of well-maintained stairs through a forest (not too steep), and you can arrive in less than 30 minutes. You can get there from multiple entry points.

For public transportation, take the S2 Shuttle from Neihu Station and get off at Hengguang Temple. From there, walk about 1.1 km up the road and on the Daluntoushan trail until you reach the viewing platform. Or, as is usual in some of these mountain spots, driving is a much more convenient option if you have that luxury.
