HSR Taichung Station (高鐵台中站)

Taichung is a pretty cool city to explore, with access to some of Taiwan’s highest and most beautiful mountain hiking and some excellent sunset spots. But one spot that tops them all in terms of convenience is HSR Taichung Station.

From the outdoor viewing platform behind the station, as well as from the HSR train platform itself, you can get a due-west view from a couple stories up. You could literally get a good sunset shot from your HSR seat without even getting off. I mean, how lazy can you be! But seriously, take advantage of this stress-free sunset if you have the chance.

I enjoy the viewing platform behind the station because from there, you can see a road going directly west and a pedestrian walkway that crosses over to the MRT Station. The sun drops behind the walkway and shines on the cars below, and reflects on the side of the MRT building, which is a really cool scene.

If you have some time to kill while waiting for your HSR train (or slow train or MRT) in the early evening, then be sure to take a gander to that platform. You can also see the sunset from inside the station through the windows.

Getting to the station is by nature pretty easy. Like I hinted, it’s a combined HRT/TRA/MRT station. There is also a YouBike station on one side.

This station, like some of the other HSR stations, used to be considered a bit out of the way. But recently the area has been developing, and with the recent Taichung MRT connecting it to the rest of the city, it’s easier to get to from within Taichung.
