Guanshan (關山)

Kenting is a magical place with wide ocean vistas and great beaches. One of the best places to see the sunsets in the Kenting vicinity is Guanshan. Here, you can soak in the magic of the coast and release stress as the sun drops below the Pacific. I would add Guanshan to a southern Taiwan must-see list if you’re even faintly interested in sunsets.

I have been to Guanshan three times, and each time I look fondly back at the pictures I took and am reminded of how free and easy I felt while there. I used to live in the Bay Area, California and frequently saw ocean sunsets there. Guanshan gave the same vibes because well, of course, it’s next to the same ocean, and the strong sky hues were similar in both places. A sunset at Guanshan is a great way to end a trip to Kenting/Pingtung on your way back to Kaohsiung, as it’s northwest of central Kenting at Hengchun.

This place is simple, and you don’t need too much time here. There are a couple good platforms from which you can see everything you need. You won’t get a lot of variety in angles, but the views you do have are really exceptional.

Getting to Guanshan is really best done by car/scooter unless you are coming as part of a tour bus stop. You can park right next to the entrance and walk up a couple minutes. There is also a bus stop for the 306 bus to Hengchun right next to the entrance.
