Embark on a journey with me as I chase the beauty of sunsets in Taiwan.

It all began in the captivating landscapes of San Francisco, where each beach visit and mountain climb at sunset left me spellbound by the kaleidoscope of colors in the sky.

Driven by this passion, I invested in a DSLR and started capturing the essence of the “golden hour.” Planning became second nature, ensuring I positioned myself perfectly at every hiking trail, mountain peak, coastline, beach, park, or road to witness the magic.

Yet, the quest for the perfect sunset wasn’t always a breeze. Remote mountain outcrops demanded daring drives and challenging hikes. The return journey after sunset, laden with camera gear, posed its own set of challenges – from navigating trails in the dark to encounters with critters.

Spoiled by the almost daily coastal sunsets of San Francisco, I soon found myself facing a different reality in Asia.

Now in Taiwan, I’ve fallen in love with the island’s beauty, but the weather plays a different tune. Endless rain and frequent clouds often obscure the sunset’s brilliance. Some mountainous locales are a puzzle to access, demanding meticulous planning. Public transportation often fades away by early afternoon, leaving driving as the sole option. Hiking trails, vibrant during the day, transform into deserted paths, shrouded in darkness, teeming with unknown creatures.

To add to the challenge, there’s a scarcity of resources in Chinese or English about sunset spots. Anxieties rise when a beautiful day beckons, and I long for a comprehensive guide.

Thus, I’ve decided to create a resource – a map-visualized list detailing the journey to each sunset spot. Discover where each good sunset spot is, how to get there, how difficult the hike and/or drive might be, how many viewing platforms you’ll have, and everything else you need to know in your preparations for remote or urban sunsets in Taiwan.
